Is Liraglutide legal?
Yes, as a prescription drug: FDA has approved it (Victoza, Saxenda, generics). A vial sold as a 'research peptide' is not the approved product, and selling it for human use breaks federal drug law. Pharmacies may compound it only when the product is not a copy of the approved drug.

State rules
2 STATESCalifornia's same-ingredient 'essentially a copy' rule (adopted 17 Jun 2025) applies to compounded liraglutide as it does to every commercially available drug.
Since 1 Jul 2026 Indiana law (IC 16-42-22.5) bars compounding from research-grade or veterinary-grade bulk ingredients outside an IRB-approved study and requires an FDA-registered source with a certificate of analysis. From 1 Jan 2027 medical spas must register with the state medical board.
