6 STATESCalifornia's pharmacy rules, adopted 17 Jun 2025, treat any compounded drug with the same active ingredient as a commercial product as 'essentially a copy' unless the pharmacist documents a clinically significant difference for the patient. That is stricter than FDA's test, which also looks at strength and route.
Mississippi's Board of Medical Licensure rule (Part 2640, Rule 1.5(F)) bars off-label use of any drug not FDA-approved for weight loss when given solely for weight loss, and its 2023 guidance told licensees to stop prescribing compounded semaglutide 'until further notice'.

Connecticut's Attorney General sued Florida-based Triggered Brand on 21 May 2025 under the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act and the state's unlicensed-pharmacy statutes, alleging it sold 'research grade' semaglutide and tirzepatide to consumers; the suit seeks up to $5,000 per violation. We found no reported outcome.

Ohio's Board of Pharmacy says compounded copies of semaglutide ended 22 Apr 2025, salt forms may never be used, and all ingredients must be bought from Ohio-licensed distributors. Its inspectors report research-grade semaglutide in clinics, which may not possess it.

Since 1 Jul 2026 Indiana law (IC 16-42-22.5) bars compounding from research-grade or veterinary-grade bulk ingredients outside an IRB-approved study and requires an FDA-registered source with a certificate of analysis. From 1 Jan 2027 medical spas must register with the state medical board.

Can a pharmacy compound Semaglutide?
Component of an approved drug, so a 503A pharmacy may compound it only when the result is not 'essentially a copy' of Ozempic, Wegovy or Rybelsus, and only from semaglutide base (salt forms are not the approved ingredient). Shortage-period discretion ended 22 Apr 2025 (503A) and 22 May 2025 (503B). FDA proposed on 1 May 2026 to exclude semaglutide from the 503B clinical-need list; no final notice as of 12 Oct 2026.
Is Semaglutide banned in sport?
It is not on the WADA 2026 Prohibited List. GLP-1 receptor agonists are not on the 2026 or the 2027 Prohibited List. WADA's 2027 Monitoring Program names semaglutide, which tracks use but does not ban it.
